That egg salad on the salad bar, so creamy, so tasty. Also I love that the celery and carrots are very crisp on the salad bar and never a brown leaf anywhere to be seen. Worst experience so far: One time, there wasn't a pair of tongs in the garbanzo beans. I'd say I got over that before I sat back down.

Well been there a few times. Nice place and food is usually good. Stopped in this weekend for dinner. Looks like they have new menu. Very pricey . Got the prime rib special queen cut. Not happy. Half was fat and what was not fat was kinda tough and sinewy. The dipping sauce was so salty I could not eat it. Have been coming here for years not sure I will return again. Maybe a bad night but......

We not only ate dinner at the Carlin, but spent four nights in their motel, over the restaurant. Other than losing power during the first night, our stay was excellent, and when we moved to a room overlooking the lake, it was even better. We dined one night with friends from nearby Winchester and found the food to be of high-quality. All of our entrees were nicely prepared, cooked correctly, and delivered on time. We start with drinks and my brandy Old Fashioned, prepared the hard way, was so good I wanted another. The owner, Jim Luedtke, was the host and he affably handled the packed crowd with all the finesse needed. The bar staff, heck, all the staff was great and didn't lose their heads when busy. If you get chance when visting, see if the Carlin Lodge (next to the restaurant) is not occupied and see if you can get a tour. This old hunting lodge, dating back over 60 or more years, was once the playground of the well-appointed and annoited crowd. It apparently has hosted luminaries such as Liz Taylor, John Wayne, the Kennedy's and even a sitting President, Dwight Eisenhower, who loved to fish alone on the lake. Well, I'll bet he was hardly alone, but still...

Went for October Festival and ate at the lodge. Don't miss the Wagner band if you get the chance. Oh yeah, the food and service were great. Kids portions were huge and good. I had the poorman's lobster which was tasty and cooked just right.

This was a great surprise. We had some challenges finding it on our snowmobiles but we were thrilled once we arrived. Great service. Nice bar and good drinks. Good salad bar. Most of our group had fish. My broiled walley was excellent. The blackened grouper was also very good. Great meal.

As a traveling salesman I can name great restaurants across the USA. I would put this at the top for the German food. Better than the nostalgic Berghoffs in Chicago by a landslide and an excellent restaurant in Portland OR for German food. This is a must stop if in the area for dinner.

One of my favorite places to eat when I'm in the north woods of Wisconsin. Typically it's our go to spot for Friday Fish Fry. They have a number of options from all you can eat fried cod, baked cod, broiled or pan fried walley, or broiled halibut. The fried cod always comes out perfect, crispy but not oily. Served with your choice of potato (I usually get a baked potato) and some satuéed vegetables. In addition to your entree you get your choice of soup or their salad bar. I always get the salad bar. It has a home made garlic cheese spread, and paté along with crackers, fresh greens, with your choice of toppings (mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber, bacon bits, onions etc...) The also hack carrot and celery spears, pickles, cherry peppers, and a selection of cold salads, herring, beets, egg, & coleslaw. All are homemade and delicious. For as little as $11 for the all you can eat cod, you get a high quality very filling meal. We also came once on Thursday night which is their German buffet and it did not disappoint. For $16 you get soup (I love the liver dumpling) *and* the above mentioned salad bar as well as all you can eat German food. The food is served cook to order, versus being an actual buffet, (which is a plus in my book) and all you can eat. Some of the options: * Pork Shank Lean and tasty, skinless shank, served over mashed potatoes with a side of sauerkraut. * Weiner Schnitzel Veal cutlets breaded and pan-fried with sauerkraut. * Pork Schnitzel Fresh pork pounded for tenderness then coated with old world seasonings, fried to crispy perfection and served over mashed potatoes with sauerkraut. * Braumeister Platter Usinger's Knackwurst, Bratwurst, and Kielbasa with sauerkraut. * Black Forest Schnitzel Breaded pork layered with ham, Swiss cheese, spinach and pan gravy served over spatzle with side of sauerkraut. Great food, waitstaff, ambiance, and inexpensive drinks. Carlin is a must if you're in the area.

Decent menu and salad bar, and plenty of waitstaff working when we were there on a Saturday night. Seating located in the basement below lodge rooms, but the northwoods decor and cozy stone fireplace don't leave you feeling like you're dining in a basement at all. During the day there is a nice view from the dining area overlooking the lake. My husband said the place is somewhat reminiscent of old world German rathskellers. Due to somewhat inflated prices and my vegetables served luke warm, I have it 4 stars. However, you won't be disappointed if you order the davenport potatoes!
